Up to 20% of the 2.6 million Veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars may have PTSD, according to the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies.
That means as many as 520,000 Veterans are suffering with the serious psychological consequences of their military service to our country. Despite the growing body of research and anecdotal evidence that supports the value and benefits of Assistance Dogs, the government and insurance companies will not pay for or provide insurance coverage for them.
