PARTNERS IN PROMISE

All children, including those receiving special education, are entitled to a free and appropriate education (FAPE). The data show there are systemic problems with special education for military families across the United States. Partners in PROMISE (PIP) was founded by a group of military spouses in February 2020 to elevate the concerns of military special education students and their families and ensure they have equal access to education as their civilian counterparts. We focus on three main pillars to accomplish this mission: Equip, Inform, and Enable. Equip Military Parents searching for resources and guidance to help navigate special education and the military's Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP). Inform Leaders using data collected from our surveys of military families with children in special education to help inform policies supporting military families. Enable military students to thrive by learning to self-advocate and reaching their full potential to be independent, productive members of society.

In addition to conducting research on military children with disabilities, PiP utilizes that data to provide direct services where they are needed most. PiP offers free customizable Special Needs Binders, 1:1 Parent Mentor Consultations for up to four hours per family, workshops, webinars and on-demand access to special education resources through our website.
