Since 1909, the Humane Society of Saginaw County has been a safety net for animals—and for the people who love them.
For more than a century, we have served Saginaw County, Michigan, helping animals who are homeless, abandoned, injured, neglected or simply born into circumstances where their families cannot afford the care they need.
We are an independent, volunteer-driven organization with no paid staff, no shelter and no office. Our animals are cared for in the homes of dedicated foster families, and our volunteers work directly in the community. We keep our organization simple so donor dollars can stay focused where they matter most: helping animals.
Our mission is not only to rescue animals who are suffering today, but to prevent animals from suffering tomorrow.
We believe “No Birth is the first step to No Kill.” Through low-cost and no-cost spay and neuter assistance, we help families who love their pets but cannot afford surgery. Preventing one unwanted litter can prevent generations of puppies and kittens from facing homelessness, neglect and abandonment.
Our Trap-Neuter-Return program provides humane population control for community cats. Cats are trapped, spayed or neutered, vaccinated and provided necessary medical care. Friendly cats and kittens are brought into our foster and adoption program whenever possible so they can leave life outdoors behind.
And when an animal is already suffering, we are there.
We rescue some of Saginaw County’s most vulnerable animals—animals found sick or injured outdoors, abandoned when their families move, left behind in empty or condemned homes, and victims of serious neglect. They enter volunteer foster homes where they receive veterinary treatment, food, safety, patience and the time they need to heal physically and emotionally before adoption.
Sometimes saving an animal means helping the person at the other end of the leash.
For families facing financial hardship, we provide free pet food and supplies so a temporary crisis does not force someone to surrender or abandon a beloved companion. No one should have to choose between feeding themselves and feeding the animal waiting for them at home.
This is what it means to be a Humane Society.
We rescue animals already in crisis. We prevent unwanted litters. We care for community cats. We help struggling families keep the pets they love. And we give injured, neglected and abandoned animals the opportunity to become someone’s cherished family member.
Every donation becomes part of that safety net. It can help provide a spay or neuter surgery, veterinary treatment for an injured animal, food for a hungry pet, vaccinations for a community cat, or the care an abandoned animal needs while waiting for a forever home.
We have been here for Saginaw County’s animals since 1909.
With the help of people who believe their lives matter, we will continue to be here for them.
