Tara Homes Foundation was founded on a simple belief: no one should be denied recovery because they lack a safe place to live. In a nation as developed as ours, a secure home — a place to heal, rest, and rebuild — should never be out of reach. Yet too many people completing treatment have nowhere to go, leaving them vulnerable to relapse, homelessness, and despair.

Our mission is to provide clean, sober, and supportive homes for individuals recovering from substance use disorder (SUD) and mental health challenges. Our vision is to expand this model to other communities struggling with housing insecurity, creating pathways to stability and independence.

In early 2025, we opened our first women’s sober house in East Hartford, CT. Within months, it became a place of transformation for three women who arrived uncertain and unemployed — and are now all sober, employed, confident, and thriving. Their stories show that with the right environment and compassion, recovery is not just possible — it’s unstoppable.

But many more are still waiting for that chance. The need is urgent: 46.8 million Americans live with SUD, and only 13% receive treatment. Among them, up to 60% relapse, often because they lack stable housing or post-treatment support. In Connecticut, overdose deaths have quadrupled in a decade, underscoring the need for safe recovery housing now more than ever.

Our homes are fully furnished and stocked with essentials so residents can focus on healing and growth. We rely on compassionate supporters, like you, to sustain this circle of hope — funding operational costs, housing sponsorships, and program expansion.
