NEIGHBOR RIDE INC

For over 20 years, Neighbor Ride has provided door-to-door transportation for Howard County seniors aged 60 and older. In fiscal year 2025, Neighbor Ride provided 17,748 trips (or 9,320 round-trip rides), of which 52.8% of client trips were for medical visits, 11.3 % shopping, 9.3% social, 7.5% exercise, 6.9% personal, 5.1 % religious services, 3.6% work, and 3.6 % volunteer/education. All rides cost only 30-40% of the market rate, with no fee for income-qualified clients or veterans, and a $10 ride credit for vision-related services, totaling 42% of all rides. Volunteer Ride Coordinators handle intake and scheduling functions, and 300 volunteer Drivers use their personal vehicles to provide transportation to destinations in Howard County and surrounding jurisdictions.

Door-to-door rides are available daytimes and evenings, 7 days/week. By providing for the transportation needs of seniors, Neighbor Ride removes a key barrier to health care and preventive services and ensures the continued well-being and dignity of the elderly - enabling them to remain active, independent, and connected to the community.

Initially in response to the COVID-19 crisis, Neighbor Ride now also serves vulnerable individuals and families in our community by delivering food and durable medical equipment in partnership with the Howard County Food Bank and the Loan Closet of Howard County.
