PLANES OF FAME AIR MUSEUM

With over 150 aircraft on display at the main facility in Chino, California and a satellite facility in Valle-Grand Canyon, Arizona, the Museum aircraft collection spans the history of flight from the 1896 Chanute Hang Glider to the space age. Many of the aircraft on display are the last of their type and over 30 are flown regularly. The Museum also has very large non-aircraft collections: over 225 military and civilian aviation uniforms, 800 aviation films in 16mm and VHS format; along with several thousand items of aviation memorabilia including original fighter squadron patches, pins and medals, aviation art and photographs.
Planes of Fame is where aviation history lives. Monthly "living history" events pair speakers and aircraft to highlight historical events. Volunteers gave 45,302 hours of their time in 2014 to restore and fly the aircraft, organize the annual air show in May, serve as docents and assist with the extensive non-aircraft collections at the museum.
Recent achievements include the addition of four new display hangars, the opening of the Aviation Discovery Center and Theater complex. We recently cataloged the books in our archives and opened our Reading Room which is open to the public on Saturdays.
Goals for 2018 include 1) the expansion of the Aviation Discovery Program; 2) upgrading our displays, incorporating the uniforms and memorabilia given to the museum over the years 3) ensuring our guests have an immersive experience, leaving them with a deeper understanding of our nations’ history and aviation's role in shaping it.
