Last week the Illinois Board of Education released its results from 2024. Seventy public schools in Chicago did not have a SINGLE student who was proficient in reading or math!
All this failure in spite of the fact that most of these schools received a lot more spending per pupil than the national average ($15,633). In one case (Douglass Academy High School) the per pupil spending was $93,787!
Outraged by this report, several of our donors from Illinois reached out to us and asked if there was anything we could do. Yes, we said, but only if we got these kids as far away from their schools as possible!
To that end, we have expanded a program we started in Colorado several years ago. It helps young people who want to join the military to pass the entrance test (the ASVAB).
We started these classes in South Chicago last December and hold them every month at the Midway Airport Marriott. To date, our students have increased their scores by an average of 84% after just 9 hours of instruction. This means our efficiency rate is 9.33%. In other words, after one hour of classes our students increase their reading and math scores by 9.33%.
So far, four candidates have passed and enlisted in the military, with more on the way every month. Help us to reverse the criminal neglect that Chicago Public Schools has inflicted on the young people of that city.
Let's break this cycle of failure and give those who want to serve our Nation an opportunity to make something of themselves. It's time to pay it forward.
