MORETTA COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION

VICTORVILLE, California

Moretta Community Development Foundation (MCDF) works to promote diversity and inclusion, reduce barriers and remove inequities in education, health, housing, economic wellness and overall well-being. We work to lift up out of poverty disadvantaged Black, Latino/a/x, Indigenous and minority people of color. Our mission is to empower socioeconomically underserved and disenfranchised people while advancing toward the goals of healthy, vibrant communities. The MCDF IN FOR TEN INITIATIVE and outreach campaign creates the runway for in-depth community and economic development strategies to take root. Understanding root causes of discrimination and disenfranchisement requires building a network of people, programs, projects, processes, organizations and support to collectively structure the building blocks of change that bring about diversity, equity, access and inclusion for all. MCDF was a proud partner with the U.S. Census Bureau in the 2020 decennial count effort. MCDF established the “My Community Counts Initiative” and Community Outreach Campaign to support the educational effort to raise awareness and importance of a complete and accurate count. MCDF worked to support complete count committees in California and Georgia. MCDF supported census partnership specialists through volunteerism, community outreach and engagement activities, website pages, newsletters and hosted census educational videos. The executive director, Deborrah Gilbert, was considered to be one of the communities’ “Trusted Voices” in the effort to reach the Hard To Count (HTC) populations within her community. “HTC" is considered to be, but is not limited to people from nomadic and transitory communities migrating around seasonal agricultural industries, homeless populations, renters and rural areas characterized by limited or no internet access, low broadband internet, or no direct mail delivery system at all.
