The Center for American Military Music Opportunities (CAMMO), is an innovative 501(c)3 nonprofit organization committed to the concept of bringing American service members, veterans and family together to share their love of music, performance and audio technology, and benefit from the healing power of music and sound. CAMMO’s initial strategy was to create a supportive platform for skill building in individual musicianship and performance, as well as connecting service members with leading industry talent development specialists.
CAMMO’s effectiveness is evaluated through various metrics, based upon the goals of the program, whether that is growth as in individual musician, participation in a music therapy program, or the development of an audience awareness of the military musician.
Artistic development of the musician is assessed through performance review and coaching from music industry professionals. Performers regularly audition and have their public performances reviewed for feedback. Assessment of musical skills includes stage presence, musicality, and engagement with the audience along with technical musical performance skills. In addition, performers are evaluated on their clarity in conveying the mission of CAMMO and their service to the nation and communities through military service and musicianship.
All CAMMO performances are designed to increase the awareness of musical talent in the American armed services and expand awareness of the meaning and implication of military service to local communities. To gather such information, audience members are encouraged to use online resources, including the CAMMO website and an anonymous Survey Monkey web site, to share their experience as an audience member. In addition to providing a tracking of program awareness, this feedback loop also informs the artist development directors in their assessment of the musician’s growth and impact as a performer.
CAMMO is reaching a new level of organizational development and entering a stage of growth that can more fully integrate its current and proposed projects. We are now in the next steps for CAMMO in order to expand our program’s outreach, we need to increase our funding base. Thank you for considering us.
