Organization Description

Northern Nevada Moses Project (NNMP) is grassroots 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization started in Elko, dedicated to strengthening and supporting children in foster care, kinship and guardianship families, at-risk youth, teens transitioning out of foster care, and families experiencing crisis or financial hardship throughout rural Northern Nevada.

Founded in 2020, NNMP was created in response to a critical gap in resources for rural families caring for vulnerable children. Foster, kinship, and guardianship placements can happen with little or no notice, often leaving caregivers responsible for children who arrive without properly fitting clothing, shoes, beds, school supplies, hygiene products, or other basic necessities. Rural communities face additional challenges because many traditional support services are located hours away.

NNMP works to bridge that gap by providing immediate, practical, and dignity-centered assistance. Rather than limiting support to a single event or season, we provide resources throughout the year as needs arise. Our goal is to reduce the financial burden on caregivers, create stability for children experiencing difficult transitions, and ensure that families in crisis have somewhere to turn.

Our Programs

Foster, Kinship & Guardianship Family Support
NNMP provides essential items to children entering or living in foster, kinship, or guardianship care. Assistance may include new and gently used clothing, shoes, underwear and socks, hygiene products, bedding, beds, household furniture, baby supplies, food, gift cards, and other necessities. We work to respond quickly when placements occur so caregivers can focus on providing a safe and stable home.

Back-to-School Readiness
NNMP helps children begin the school year prepared and confident by providing new backpacks, school supplies, clothing, shoes, socks, underwear, and other school necessities. We believe having the same basic supplies as their peers promotes dignity, belonging, confidence, and educational readiness.

Clothing & Basic Needs Assistance
Throughout the year, families can access clothing and other essential household resources through NNMP. Our program serves children and families facing financial hardship while maintaining a strong focus on the unique needs of foster, kinship, and guardianship families.

At-Risk Youth & Transition Support
NNMP recognizes the challenges faced by teenagers and young adults who lack a dependable family support system. We assist at-risk youth and teens transitioning out of foster care with clothing, household necessities, food, hygiene products, and other resources that support a safer and more stable transition toward independence.

Holiday & Seasonal Assistance
During Thanksgiving, Christmas, and other high-need seasons, NNMP works with donors, businesses, and community partners to provide food assistance, holiday gifts, clothing, and other necessities to children and families who otherwise may go without.

Our Approach

Northern Nevada Moses Project believes meaningful assistance is about more than providing material goods. A new pair of shoes, a bed to sleep in, clothing that fits, or a backpack filled with school supplies can restore dignity, confidence, stability, and a sense of belonging for a child experiencing circumstances they did not choose.

Through partnerships with local businesses, foundations, donors, volunteers, and community organizations, NNMP turns community generosity into direct assistance for vulnerable children and families. As a community-supported organization, we remain focused on responsible stewardship and ensuring resources have a meaningful, measurable impact.

Our mission is simple but vital: to meet families where they are, provide practical support when it matters most, and ensure vulnerable children know they are valued, supported, and not forgotten.
