The Sgt. Amon Gift Memorial Fund was founded in 2017 by a group of runners who met each year for a 200 mile relay race in south Texas. The Sgt. Amon Gift Memorial Fund was founded in 2017 by a group of runners who met each year for a 200 mile relay race in south Texas. Our team ran in the mixed military division with 6 military veterans in our ranks. The week before the race in 2017, Marc, one of our youngest members, lost a close friend and brother in arms whom he served with in the middle east -- Sgt. Amon Gift. Marc and Sgt. Gift both struggled with PTSD and it's side affects. Sgt. Gift lost that battle and took his own life. Marc asked us to dedicate our race that year to Sgt. Gift, and we ran with his name on the back of our team shirts. We lifted each other up over the 36 hour non-stop race, with Amon's memory giving us strength and courage over each long mile. And, many other race participants were inspired by our story, learned more about the affects of PTSD and offered encouragement and support.
When the race was over, we determined that we would take our recognition of Amon's pain and struggle a step further. We decided to create a Fund and raise money in his name with two goals in mind:
1) Providing educational support for the young daughter he left behind, and
2) Supporting local organizations who provide badly needed services to other vets like Amon who suffer from PTSD.
We raise money each year leading up to the relay race, and have expanded into other avenues that allow us to generate even more funds to do what can to keep another vet from losing their battle with PTSD
