DC AFFORDABLE LAW FIRM

At DC Affordable Law Firm, we believe all people deserve access to justice, and income should never be a barrier to an individual’s or a family’s receipt of high-quality legal representation. DC Affordable Law Firm (“DCALF”) was founded in 2015 to provide high quality, free, and affordable legal services to the one-in-five hardworking DC residents who, in spite of employment, fall into the “forgotten middle” when it comes to civil legal services --- individuals who do not qualify for traditional sources of free legal services, but are unable to afford representation by private attorneys. DCALF is a unique organization in which DCALF Fellows, recent graduates from Georgetown University Law Center and the University of the District of Columbia David A. Clarke School of Law, represent modest- and lower-income DC residents in family law, immigration, heirs' property, probate, and estate planning matters, working alongside DCALF’s team of veteran attorneys and supervisors. DCALF holds a unique identify as the central legal services in the District – and the Country – centered on serving our modest-income DC residents which also runs a one-of-a-kind fellowship program. DCALF’s vision is twofold – to eliminate inequities in DC’s civil justice system while launching the careers of the next generation of public interest attorneys committed to accessible justice. Since 2015, we have served more than 1,850 clients in 2,500+ legal matters and reached hundreds more through community engagement and education. Across the District of Columbia, as costs of living continue to rise and affordability becomes an attenuated concept, there is an increased demand and need for the accessible, free, and culturally competent family law, immigration, heirs' property, probate, and estate planning legal services DCALF is distinct in delivering. DCALF's services change lives, disrupt inequities in the legal system, and put clients on the path to economic advancement by making the law accessible to all.
