Our ability to support defenders and provide an essential resource of information for governments, journalists, think tanks, international monitoring organizations, faces unprecedented challenges.
Your support is critical because our work is essential in providing a lifeline for human rights defenders across China, whose fight against censorship, for ending impunity, increasingly matters for ordinary people around the world. If the Chinese officials responsible for threatening human rights in other countries are held accountable, there would be fewer instances of transnational repression.

About us:
In 2005, more than a dozen human rights and democracy activists, dissident writers, and human rights lawyers across China started a voluntary organization in response to the urgent needs to nurture a burgeoning movement defending human rights (wei quan) inside the country. Their ranks included veterans of the 1989 democracy movement, and the late 2010 Nobel Peace Prize laureate Liu Xiaobo.
Two decades later, the Network of Chinese Human Rights Defenders has:
• Awarded more than one thousand small grants to human rights defenders, lawyers, and victims and survivors of violations;
• Conducted human rights training in-person with hundreds of activists, lawyers, and journalists on topics ranging from labor rights to religious freedom and international human rights law and United Nations implementation mechanisms;
• Conducted training online with roughly two thousand people on the same topics and especially on digital security and counter-surveillance tactics;
• Published dozens of ground breaking research reports and hundreds of press releases and alerts;
• Made nearly 200 submissions on prisoners of conscience to United Nations human rights offices;
• Logged 3,993 Prisoner of Conscience cases in our bilingual database;
• Attracted about 200,000 followers to our social media platforms;
• Run a 24/7 “Helpline” emergency assistance and technical support for defenders through end-to-end encrypted platforms; and
• Provided daily breaking news on human rights conditions from China.
