The Network of Chinese Human Rights Defenders (CHRD) is a coalition of Chinese and international human rights non-governmental organizations. The network is dedicated to the promotion of human rights through peaceful efforts to push for democratic and rule of law reforms and to strengthen grassroots activism in China. CHRD engages in capacity building and provides advocacy tools as well as technical support to grassroots Chinese human rights defenders through organizing trainings on international human rights instruments and protections for human rights defenders. CHRD administers a program of small grants for activists to implement human rights projects, and provides legal aid and emergency assistance to victims of human rights abuses. CHRD investigates and monitors the human rights situation in China, disseminating human rights news updates, alerts to urgent situations, statements about important developments, and research reports and analyses to inform the media, policy makers, human rights agencies, and the general public.

• Holding online trainings with more than 2,000 people, with a particular focus on digital security and counter-surveillance tactics;
• Awarding more than one thousand grants to human rights defenders, lawyers, and victims and survivors of human rights violations;
• Publishing dozens of groundbreaking research reports and hundreds of press releases and alerts;
• Making nearly 200 submissions on prisoners of conscience to United Nations human rights offices;
• Logging nearly 4,000 prisoner of conscience cases in our bilingual database;
• Attracting more than 200,000 followers to our social media platforms;
• Running a 24/7 “Helpline” emergency assistance and technical support for defenders through end-to-end encrypted platforms; and
• Providing daily breaking news on human rights developments in China.
