The Off-Road Explorers Program is Virginia Off Road’s youth education initiative, designed to bring the excitement of off-roading and the importance of outdoor stewardship directly into classrooms. This program introduces kids to the world of responsible trail use, environmental care, and the spirit of exploration in a fun and engaging way.
Through hands-on lessons, classroom activities, and interactive discussions, students learn about trail safety, Leave No Trace principles, vehicle and equipment basics, teamwork, and respect for the outdoors. The program is structured so that teachers can easily integrate it into their curriculum, helping kids connect what they learn in class with real-world experiences in the outdoors.
To encourage participation and celebrate accomplishments, students earn badges and certifications as they progress through the program. These achievements recognize their knowledge, responsibility, and commitment to safe and ethical off-road exploration. At the end of the program, each student who completes the full curriculum becomes a certified Off-Road Explorer, proudly carrying the lessons of stewardship and adventure with them.
Keeping the program active and available to classrooms across the Commonwealth requires an annual investment of roughly $5,000. These funds go directly toward program materials, badge and certification production, classroom resources, and ongoing updates to ensure the curriculum remains engaging and impactful.
By supporting the Off-Road Explorers Program, we’re investing in the next generation of outdoor leaders—kids who will grow up understanding how to enjoy Virginia’s trails responsibly, protect our natural resources, and share their love for off-roading with others.
