Virginia Off-Road is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting safe, responsible, and inclusive off-road vehicle recreation across Virginia. Our mission is to provide access to public and private off-road trails, educate enthusiasts about OHV (off-highway vehicle) safety and ethics, and foster a community that values environmental stewardship, outdoor adventure, and camaraderie.
Founded to bridge the gap between recreational off-roading and community education, Virginia Off-Road serves a diverse range of off-road enthusiasts—from families exploring trails for the first time to seasoned drivers seeking challenging terrain. We believe off-roading is more than a hobby: it’s a way to connect with nature, strengthen community bonds, and develop practical outdoor skills.
Our programs and initiatives focus on four key pillars:
Trail Access and Preservation: We work with landowners, local governments, and conservation organizations to open and maintain off-road trails while protecting the natural environment. This includes advocating for responsible trail use, performing maintenance projects, and creating sustainable trail designs that minimize environmental impact.
Safety and Education: Through workshops, courses, and digital resources, we teach off-roaders about vehicle safety, navigation, recovery techniques, and trail etiquette. Our OHV Safety & Ethics Course provides in-depth training to ensure that all participants enjoy their adventures responsibly.
Community Engagement: We host events, group rides, and volunteer opportunities to bring the off-roading community together. By fostering inclusion and teamwork, we provide a welcoming environment for women, families, veterans, and enthusiasts of all backgrounds.
Advocacy and Awareness: Virginia Off-Road actively promotes off-road recreation as a positive and sustainable outdoor activity. We collaborate with local and state organizations to protect trail access, educate policymakers, and highlight the economic and recreational benefits of OHV use.
Why we exist: Off-roading is a growing outdoor activity, but access to safe, legal trails and quality education is limited in many areas. Virginia Off-Road exists to fill that gap by providing resources, advocacy, and programming that ensure everyone can enjoy off-roading safely and responsibly. We believe in empowering our members and the wider community to be proactive stewards of the land, creating a culture where fun and responsibility go hand in hand.
Our impact: Since our founding, Virginia Off-Road has helped expand trail access, delivered comprehensive OHV safety courses, and organized events that strengthen community engagement. Our volunteer-driven initiatives have improved trail conditions, educated hundreds of riders, and fostered partnerships with landowners, outdoor organizations, and local governments. Every program we run is designed to inspire outdoor exploration while promoting ethical and sustainable practices.
Get involved: Members and supporters can participate in trail workdays, safety courses, social rides, and fundraising events. Donations help us maintain trails, provide educational resources, and expand our reach to underserved communities. Volunteers play a vital role in trail maintenance, event planning, and community outreach. By joining Virginia Off-Road, you become part of a movement that celebrates adventure, conservation, and community.
Virginia Off-Road is committed to creating an inclusive environment where everyone—from first-time riders to veteran off-roaders—can safely experience the thrill of off-roading while respecting the environment and each other. Through education, advocacy, and community engagement, we aim to ensure that off-road recreation in Virginia is accessible, responsible, and sustainable for generations to come.
Vision Statement: A thriving off-road community where every enthusiast can explore trails safely, ethically, and sustainably, while protecting and preserving the natural beauty of Virginia’s landscapes.
