RED RIVER MEETING HOUSE & CEMETERY INC

The Red River Meeting House and Cemetery, Inc. strives to preserve and maintain the rich heritage of this historic place. The Meeting House and Cemetery grounds are listed on the National Register of Historic Places due to its extraordinary history as it is home to a very unique phenomenon, the camp meeting. There are over 400 graves in the cemetery, some born as early as 1728. There are relatives of George Rogers Clark, two generals and a colonel from the War of 1812, several Revolutionary War soldiers and Confederate soldiers, and one veteran of the Battle of Waterloo. One tombstone has Gaelic writing, the ancient language of Scotland. Through leadership, determination and tireless efforts, this organization continues to oversee and maintain the recreated meeting house along with the cemetery and grounds allowing all people an opportunity to come and learn more about this unique place.
