Overview:
Founded in 2003 and based in Litchfield County, Connecticut, Rebuilding Together Litchfield County (RTLC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving affordable homeownership and revitalizing communities. We serve low-income seniors, veterans, and people with disabilities who own their homes but are unable to afford the necessary repairs to live in safety, warmth, and dignity.
Impact:
Since our founding, RTLC has repaired or modified approximately 325 homes throughout Litchfield County. These projects ensure that our most vulnerable neighbors can continue living independently in safe and healthy environments. Each year, we engage 40–50 skilled and unskilled volunteers, who contribute their time and talents to improve homes and transform lives.
Leadership:
Our organization is led by Executive Director Nancy Rebehn, who has served in this role since 2019. Nancy began her involvement with RTLC in 2014 as a volunteer providing unskilled labor while employed as a loan and grant underwriter for USDA Rural Development. After retiring, she joined the RTLC Board in 2018. Following the unexpected passing of RTLC’s founding Executive Director, Nancy was appointed to lead the organization. As the only paid staff member, she manages operations part-time but contributes tirelessly across all areas, including administration, outreach, and fundraising. Since taking the helm, Nancy has significantly increased RTLC’s annual funding and strengthened community partnerships.
Community Engagement:
Our work is powered by volunteers and sustained through community and philanthropic partnerships. We collaborate with local organizations, civic groups, and businesses to provide essential home repairs—from installing grab bars and replacing roofs to fixing plumbing and rebuilding porches.
Why It Matters:
Housing stability is vital to health, independence, and overall well-being. By addressing urgent safety and accessibility issues in the homes of those most in need, RTLC enables residents to age in place and live with dignity. Our repairs have a ripple effect, benefiting not only individual homeowners but also strengthening the broader community.
