Mississippi’s Toughest Kids Foundation is in the process of building Camp Kamassa, our state’s first and only year-round fully handicap accessible camp facility for children and adults with special needs. We will begin hosting camp weeks for kids and adults with serious illnesses, physical and mental challenges and other special needs in 2025. Mississippi has extremely limited opportunities for people with disabilities. Our campers are looking forward to swimming in our zero-entry fully handicap accessible swimming pool. Special water-proof wheelchairs will allow wheelchair-bound campers the ability to roll into the water and float up from the chair without having to be lowered into the water by a lift. Campers with juvenile arthritis and Sickle Cell will transfer directly from the pool to the therapeutic hot tub to increase their body temp. The splashpad will allow those campers with a fear of being in a pool the opportunity to play in the water without being submerged. The poolside building will have fully accessible showers and toilet stalls as well as adult size changing tables. This pool complex will add so much to Camp Kamassa. Buildings already constructed include 8 open bay cabins, 36 private rooms for families and an open air recreation pavilion. The lake is complete and construction on the lakeside pavilion and piers has started. The activity center is under construction and in 2024 the cafeteria and medical building will be constructed. Other plans include a welcome/conference center, a fully accessible challenge course, a zip line, an indoor rock-climbing wall, an archery range, an equestrian center, a tree house, and agri-tourism area, and staff housing. Please help us complete Camp Kamassa. Our future campers deserve incredible summer camp experiences.
