Texas RioGrande Legal Aid

Texas RioGrande Legal Aid (TRLA) is a non-profit organization that provides free legal services to low-income residents in sixty-eight counties of Southwest Texas, and represents migrant and seasonal farm workers throughout the state of Texas and six southern states: Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and Arkansas. In addition, TRLA operates public defender programs in several Southwest Texas counties, representing the poor who are accused of felonies, misdemeanors, and juvenile crimes.

TRLA’s 16 branch offices offer services organized around six broad groups: Labor and Employment, Public Benefits, Housing, Family, Economic and Social Justice, and Individual Rights. In order to address the range of legal problems confronting low-income communities, TRLA has more than 45 practice areas within these six groups, such as Farm Worker Rights, Disability Rights, Disaster Assistance, Domestic Violence, Mental Health Law, Veteran’s Benefits, Colonias and Real Estate, Civil Rights, Environmental Justice, Disaster Assistance, Foreclosure, Bankruptcy, Wills and Estates, Border Issues, Human Trafficking, and International Child Abduction, among others.

Program headquarters are in Mercedes, Texas with branch offices located throughout
