National Veterans Homeless Support, Inc. (NVHS) is a 501(c)3 tax exempt organization located in Cocoa, Florida and founded in 2008 whose mission is to “Eliminate Homelessness Among Veterans in Central Florida”.
We assist homeless and at-risk of homelessness veterans and their families either get into or stay housed through 2 primary programs: Search and Rescue and Supportive Housing. Assistance to our clients is delivered through the programs by:
a. Street level outreach to locate, provide basic needs, and place homeless veterans into housing and off the streets
b. Securing or providing funding for immediately at-risk of homelessness veteran families to pay overdue housing debts to keep them housed
c. Operating Supportive Housing facilities for homeless veterans in Brevard County with capacity to house 17 clients at one time
When the organization was founded, 1,800 homeless veterans lived in Brevard County; due to our efforts, today there are less than 200, an 88% reduction in the homeless veteran population.
While homeless veterans are still consistently assisted as they have since 2008, due to the reduced population, prevention of homelessness has become the dominate program activity for the Search and Rescue program.
Over 350 veterans and their family members are assisted on average annually between the 2 programs.
