IBD Summer Camp Foundation raises funds for the purpose of providing a free summer camp experience, CAMP GO BeYOND, to children ages 7-17 diagnosed with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD): Crohn’s Disease & Ulcerative Colitis. CAMP GO BeYOND is located at beautiful Camp Arroyo in Livermore, CA, and provides a week of activities where kids with IBD can just be kids. Campers receive excellent attention from well-trained and committed counselors who also have IBD, a safe, secure environment of acceptance, and excellent care around the clock from the on-site medical team. Campers improve their self-confidence by doing things they never dreamed possible and develop friendships that last a lifetime.
Campers can expect...
...excellent attention from well trained and committed counselors who also have IBD
... acceptance and friendships that last a lifetime
...a safe, secure environment where kids feel free to talk about anything because everyone understands
...to gain self confidence. Many campers are surprised when they participate in activities they never dreamed of doing
...comfortable cabins each with it's own restroom
...great tasting food that honors everyone's allergies and dietary restrictions.
CAMP GO BeYOND was created in 2001 by Dr. Mel Heyman, Chief of Pediatric Gastroenterolgy at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital in San Francisco as Camp Gut Busters.
Our camp is staffed by physicians and nurses with expertise in IBD. In addition, almost all of our volunteer counselors are IBD patients which gives them unique insight into the issues and challenges associated with living with IBD. Camper medications are safely stored in our Med Shed and are dispensed by our on-site nurses according to the campers' specifically prescribed schedule.
IBD Summer Camp Foundation takes affirmative action to assure equal opportunity for underutilized minorities and women, for persons with disabilities, and for Vietnam-era veterans and special disabled persons. We seek volunteers as counselors whose experience or community service has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity and excellence.
