Introduction and Origin
Feed the People Atlanta (Feed Thee) was birthed from a vision given to Mr. Christopher Jones during a dream. Initially, Feed Thee was envisioned as a single project with the sole mission of addressing the hunger needs of underserved communities. There was no immediate intention to duplicate the efforts of the food drive. However, the course of events unfolded differently from Mr. Jones’ original plans, leading to the creation of a vital and impactful organization.
The initial goal was to raise $500 within 30 days to purchase groceries for those in need. Although this goal was not met, the effort planted the seed for the growth of an organization that would go on to change countless lives. Since then, Feed Thee has grown from a one-time project into a cornerstone community-based organization, utilized by hundreds of individuals on a monthly basis.
Mr. Jones’ vision has multiplied exponentially, and his commitment to his cause has been recognized by Thrive SS, Aid Atlanta, Impulse Atlanta, POZ Veterans, The Living Room, Studio 21, The American Red Cross, H.Y.P.E., and Empower. These partnerships have been essential in expanding Feed Thee’s impact and fulfilling its mission.
Commitment to the Community
Feed Thee has dedicated itself to serving anyone who demonstrates a need for food within the Atlanta Metropolitan area. Many of the constituents Feed Thee serves are living with chronic illnesses such as HIV, diabetes, and cancer, or face challenges such as unemployment, underemployment, or homelessness. The organization has focused on ensuring that everyone, regardless of their circumstances, has access to nutritious and healthy food.
Pandemic Response
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Feed Thee adapted to the crisis by establishing a drive-through food pantry, made possible by a local church that offered its space. This initiative allowed the organization to provide critical support to over 2,000 people during one of the most challenging periods in recent history. Despite the obstacles, Feed Thee’s resilience and dedication enabled it to remain a beacon of hope for the community.
Partnership with a Warehouse
In 2022, Feed Thee entered into a partnership with a warehouse, greatly expanding its capacity to distribute fresh food and prepared meals. This collaboration allowed the organization to offer a wide variety of high-quality food, including protein packs, sandwiches, prepared meals, deli meats, and more. Through this partnership, Feed Thee has ensured that the food it provides meets both the nutritional and dietary needs of its recipients, furthering its mission of fostering healthier communities.
Community Impact
Since its inception, Feed Thee has made a profound impact on the lives of individuals and families across the Atlanta Metropolitan area. From its earliest days, the organization has been deeply committed to feeding those experiencing homelessness, regularly delivering meals to homeless camps and shelters. Once a month, Feed Thee goes above and beyond by serving chef-prepared, home-cooked meals to shelter residents, providing not only sustenance but also a sense of care and dignity.
Feed Thee’s outreach extends to families in poverty, such as the residents of an apartment complex with a high rate of poverty. The organization hosted a block party for the community, distributing food, clothing, toiletries, and household items. This event was more than a celebration—it was a testament to Feed Thee’s commitment to addressing the broader needs of struggling families.
In addition to its food programs, Feed Thee provides hygiene kits to individuals experiencing homelessness on a weekly basis. These kits, containing items such as soap and toothpaste, play a vital role in helping people maintain their dignity and health.
Feed Thee has also partnered with agencies to expand its reach. Through collaborations with Thrive SS, Aid Atlanta, Empower, H.Y.P.E., and others, food is delivered to senior centers, ensuring that vulnerable older adults receive the nourishment they need. Furthermore, the organization provides meals to those frequenting the Atlanta Recovery Center, supporting individuals on their path to stability and recovery.
Through these diverse initiatives, Feed Thee has proven that its mission extends beyond providing food. It aims to build stronger, more resilient communities by addressing food insecurity and offering holistic support to those in need.
Growth and Future Vision
Since its inception in March 2016, Mr. Jones, along with the help of countless volunteers and donors, has successfully distributed more than 500 baskets of food. The original goal to triple this amount by 2017 marked the beginning of Feed Thee’s ambitious efforts to expand its reach.
Looking ahead, Feed Thee is dedicated to continuing its growth and impact. By strengthening partnerships and exploring new collaborations, the organization aims to extend its services to even more communities. Feed Thee’s focus on sustainability and innovation ensures that it will remain a pillar of support for those in need for years to come
