The Veterans Resource Program (VRP) is a 501(c)3 non profit organization. The charitable purpose of the VRP includes relief of the poor, the distressed or under privileged military veteran. To remain in alignment with our mission, to assist veterans from homelessness to wholeness, VRP has provided an environment where veterans can heal from the complications of Post Traumatic Syndrome Disorder (PTSD) through providing various programs.
Our Wellness Program, assists those veterans with artist ability, VRP implemented an art program, 'Faces of Veterans through Artist Expressions in the form of a Mural'. The mural, located on the side of the facility, provides healing for veterans inside and outwardly who desire to serve in the VRP, they have displayed support and love for the community, and see themselves reflected through a public display of artistic creativity. To promote exercise, camaraderie and goodwill, VRP will implement their Veterans Bike Program, we received a donation of fifteen used bikes and is in need of helmets and jackets to get on the road. VRP will implement Yoga for Vets in May of this year, studies show that veterans who participate in yoga have learned how to apply various relaxation techniques, to help them cope with day-to-day stresses.
VRP has plans on implementing various healing counseling groups for combat and non combat veterans to include AA and NA meetings. VRP implemented the I-Am-AVET toll free inspiration line to provide encouragement and support to veterans from around the world, vets can feel isolated and frustrated by life, the line hope to touch the hearts of veterans and be a positive influence in their lives. VRP has identified the importance of veterans socializing and has provided movie night, game nights, that include barbecue dinners for veterans, their families and our neighbors.
VRP was selected by the Dept of Veterans Affairs, Oakland Regional as a site for volunteer service, twelve employees, VRP veterans and the community gathered to remove dirt, plant flowers, painted fences and cut grass. VRP was honored to host its first annual Memorial Day Ceremony that was attended by hundreds to include our Mayor and city council members and marched in the Juneteenth Parade. In October 2015 VRP hosted our first Veterans Job Fair in our facility. VRP received a face lift through a grant from Home Depot, dedicated our War Memorial Wall, located on the side of the facility. In celebration of Veteran’s Day VRP hosted a Resource Fair, where 23 vendors participated in the event.
VRP received a Proclamation from the Mayor and City Council dedicating VRP as the primary source of assistance for veterans in the City of Richmond. In March 2016, Richmond Mayor and the VRP partnered to honor the lives of honorably discharged veterans by presenting Certificates of Honor to the family of each Richmond veteran that passes away. The VRP will present the Certificate of Honor to the family of any Richmond veteran at their memorial service as a gesture of honorable recognition for his or her service in the armed forces and contribution to the city of Richmond.
As a self supportive organization, VRP is appreciative of all the love and support that is shown to us throughout our journey with providing services for our veterans. We are grateful for your consideration to support the VRP financially.
