PRESBYTERIAN NIGHT SHELTER OF TARRANT COUNTY

On any given night this year, around 2,400 adults and children will experience homelessness in Tarrant County – sleeping on the streets, personal vehicles, and other places not intended for human habitation, or finding temporary respite in an overnight shelter (Partnership Home, 2024 Point in Time Count). Presbyterian Night Shelter is committed to serving Fort Worth’s most vulnerable neighbors - providing emergency shelter, removing barriers to employment, and walking alongside men, women, and families on their journey from homeless to home.

Presbyterian Night Shelter is open 365 days a year, providing emergency overnight shelter and daytime respite services to people experiencing homelessness in Fort Worth. We are a no barrier shelter committed to implementing Housing First principles without length-of-stay restrictions. Our case managers and frontline program staff connect guests with lifesaving care, services, and resources to help remove barriers and transition into stable, affordable housing.

Our wraparound services also include rapid exit housing solutions, a workforce development social enterprise that employs guests and county residents (UpSpire), and new permanent supportive housing communities (Journey Home Housing). We understand the barriers to sustainable housing and employment and offer comprehensive services designed to address those challenges at every stage of the process.

Who We Serve:
Presbyterian Night Shelter welcomes up to 725 guests every night, supporting 90% of Tarrant County’s homeless population through our shelter services for individual men and women, families with children, veterans, and people with severe mental illnesses.

UpSpire supports over 220 jobs for currently or recently homeless adults, with a Re-entry program for justice impacted individuals as well.

Journey Home Housing is permanent, affordable housing with onsite comprehensive services; our current communities are targeted for recently homeless families or those at risk and, at a separate site, adults with mental and physical disabilities experiencing chronic, repeated homelessness.

Presbyterian Night Shelter is a public nonprofit organization operating from our seven-acre campus in south Fort Worth with a $21.7M agency-wide operating budget.

Current Programs:
Shelter: Presbyterian Night Shelter’s main campus houses specialized programs to address the foundational needs of Fort Worth’s homeless community. Implementing Housing First principles, Journey Home Guides (case managers) collaborate with guests to build a service plan, empowering them with resources, knowledge, and new skills to exit homelessness and successfully support their housing stability.

Shelter Programs include:
• Moving Home – Emergency shelter and housing program for individual men and women
• Family Services – Transitional housing program for families with children including single parent and two-parent households, plus intergenerational families
• Rapid Rehousing/Exit – A program using multiple interventions and services to rapidly exit or rehouse individuals and families from experiencing homelessness
• Safe Haven – Project based permanent housing for adults living with chronic, severe mental illnesses
• Veteran Services – Transitional housing program for veterans to prepare them for permanent housing and independent living within 12 months
• True Worth Place – Day shelter and central resource center offering a critical services including laundry, showers, post office box, and a midday meal for anyone in need

Employment: UpSpire is Presbyterian Night Shelter’s career and workforce development social enterprise program that reduces or removes barriers contributing to homelessness and generates revenue for the Shelter’s operating budget. We offer over 220 full-time employment opportunities to people experiencing homelessness, who can leverage this reliable income and job experience to regain housing and compete for jobs in the general workforce. Currently, UpSpire enterprises include commercial janitorial, litter abatement, commercial landscaping, temp-to-permanent staffing, and warehouse services. UpSpire is proud to provide staff for The Bridge Travel Essentials Store in the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport and operate UpSpire Furniture, our vocational training apprenticeship.

Housing: Journey Home Housing is our permanent supportive housing program that provides long-term, affordable housing with onsite community programming and services for families with children and individuals in Fort Worth. Launched in 2023, Journey Home Housing at Seminary has 40 two-bedroom units for families with onsite laundry facilities, playgrounds, and voluntary case management to help families keep their forward momentum. Quail Trail has 48 one-bedroom units for adults who have experienced chronic homelessness.

Our staff and volunteers are here because we believe in our mission. We work tirelessly to meet our guests’ immediate needs, get them into their own homes, and help them secure sustainable employment.

In 2024, we helped 1,465 guests exit homelessness, including 507 children, and served more than 10,000 people across our programs.
