SHY WOLF SANCTUARY EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE CENTER INC

Shy Wolf Sanctuary, Education and Experience Center, in Naples, Florida, was incorporated as a 501(c)(3) Florida non-profit corporation since January 29, 2001. Founders Nancy and Kent Smith have been providing a home and sanctuary to captive-bred exotic animals since 1993 when they rescued Moondance, a three-legged Black Asian Leopard. Now home to more than 60 resident animals, the sanctuary also networks to help many other animals each year that never come to reside here, but are placed directly in foster homes for eventual adoption. The exotic animal trade is a multi-billion dollar industry, where animals are sold to individuals who believe they can care for them. However, due to inexperience and lack of knowledge of the special care required, many of these animals find themselves in need of rescue. Every year thousands of wolfdogs are surrendered to shelters where, unfortunately, they are considered unadoptable and euthanized. We work year-round to educate the public about the importance of protecting these animals while filling a very large void that exists between domestic animal shelters, wildlife rehabilitators, and zoos.
