Habitat for Humanity of Citrus County, Inc.(HFHCC) doing business as Habitat for Humanity of the Nature Coast is a non-profit (501c3), affordable housing corporation established in 1992, who seeks to bring people together to build homes, neighborhoods and hope. HFHCC works to eliminate substandard housing for people of all backgrounds, races, religions, sexual orientation and gender by providing simple, decent, affordable housing to those who have a need, ability to pay and willingness to partner. The name change is a result of our expansion into Levy County. Our Levy County involvement is well underway but still in progress.
Work accomplished through our organization has favorably impacted the availability and affordability of quality housing for low to moderate income homebuyers and we have provided Homebuyer Education and Financial counseling services for over 34 years in Citrus County, FL. Since our founding, we have increased the number of houses we build each year from less than one to over 30. Blessed with the support of benefactors, churches, businesses, civic organizations and others, we have dedicated 260 homes. We plan to complete 35 homes in the Citrus Springs development this year and expect the completion of our 300th home in the summer of 2026.
Habitat for Humanity is not a charity or a give-away program. Partner families pay closing costs and maintain a low to no interest mortgage. They also invest hundreds of hours of labor—sweat equity—into building their own homes and the homes of others. Through financial support, volunteering or adding a voice to support affordable housing, everyone can help families achieve the strength, stability and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves. Partner families work alongside generous Habitat volunteers who donate time, skills, and energy to help build the houses.
We are people from different faiths, diverse backgrounds, and many economic levels. We work toward a common goal, honoring the dignity of each person by helping each one secure a safe, secure, and decent place to live.
