Created by teachers with over 70 years of combined educational experience, the Home Front Experience program provides an immersive and transformative experience for students in 4th-12th grades. It is the only program of its kind that combines history, STEM, leadership, and citizenship in a program where children take on the identity of a real-life character from World War II. While the experience is interesting and fun, it also creates a “productive struggle”; a state of engagement that challenges students to step outside their comfort zone to accomplish all that must be done in daily life, exacerbated by limited supplies and the strain of wartime existence. The integrated nature of the program helps time and resource-strapped teachers provide deep instruction on multiple subjects while assisting students in understanding the importance of these concepts in their real-world futures. Our many-layered onion of the Home Front Experience is the perfect opportunity for students to dive deeply into 1943, have a much greater understanding of the sacrifices citizens made during this intense period for the world, and come away inspired.
