Empowering Veterans and Youth through the Resilience of Rescue Animals- Our Core Philosophy
At Buckeye Ridge Rescue and Retreat, we operate on one fundamental question: "Who rescued who?" We believe that rescue animals are more than just survivors—they are ambassadors for healing. By rehabilitating animals that have seen the darkest of circumstances, we provide a powerful mirror of hope for veterans, individuals with disabilities, and at-risk youth in Central Ohio.
A Story of Resilience
In November, we welcomed two horses and a miniature horse from a dire situation. After three years of neglect, their overgrown hooves made every step painful. Today, they are thriving. While their physical journeys prevent them from being ridden, they serve a vital role in our groundwork and grooming therapy programs. Their journey from trauma to trust teaches our participants that second chances are always possible.
Professional Care for Our Multi-Species Therapy Team
Our animal rescue is home to a diverse group of 16 rescue ambassadors, including horses, alpacas, highland calves, goats, and our crowd-favorite, Buck the Pig. These animals are more than residents; they are the heart of our community events. Whether it's Buck playing fetch or our minis providing quiet companionship, these animals offer joy and tactile healing to everyone who visits Buckeye Ridge.
Expert-Led Rehabilitation
We pride ourselves on providing elite-level care with a small, dedicated team. Our animal welfare is managed directly by our Executive Director and our Barn Manager/Trainer, who brings world-class experience to our pastures.
Elite Expertise: Our trainer is a certified farrier and was part of the specialized veterinary team at Ohio State University that rehabilitated the renowned horse "Northstar."
Specialized Care: This high level of medical and behavioral expertise ensures that even the most traumatized rescues receive the professional intervention they need to thrive as therapy animals.
The Goal: $50,000 for Comprehensive Care
Your support provides the essential resources required to maintain these animal ambassadors and expand our nature-based therapeutic programs:
Nutrition & Health: High-quality hay, grain, and specialized supplements to sustain their recovery.
Expert Rehabilitation: Funding time with a Master Trainer who specializes in rebuilding trust through empathy-based training.
Grooming & Comfort: Essential supplies for the groundwork sessions that allow humans and animals to heal together.
Your Impact
When you donate, you aren't just buying hay—you are investing in a full-circle healing sanctuary. You are ensuring that Central Ohio families have access to a place where both humans and animals can find dignity, purpose, and a fresh start.
