The 2024 Work Trip is our organization's 49th annual trip. We will traveled to Roscommon, Michigan to help individuals by offering much-needed home repair. This year we have four worksites that all youth will work on.
We replaced the roof on two homes in Roscommon this summer. We also built a front porch for a veteran who has some physical disabilities. This will allow him to get outside safely and enjoy his neighbors. We also painted the shed on his property and replaced several windows.
The fourth worksite is at the camp where we are staying. The camp was built ~50 years ago and some of its heavily-utilized spaces and cabins are beginning to show signs of age. We painted and repaired windows on 9 cabins. We also cleaned and repaired tennis courts, helped with landscaping and built a brush fence. We built a picnic table for campers to use and enjoy meals together.
Every year for 50 years we have traveled to a several hours from home to help other families make repairs to their homes that they could not afford to do on their own. This year is our 50th anniversary. We hope to continue this mission for many years to come. The youth in our congregation grow and benefit from the work they perform as much as the families that we are seeking to help. It's been a wonderful experience for all of us for many years and we are grateful for the opportunity to hep others.
