Project Henrietta: Ukraine

, PATHFINDER XGI

More and more households are food insecure. Even if the war stops tomorrow, the infrastructure isn’t there.

According to the Food and Agriculture Organization’s Food Security and Livelihoods cluster (FSL), there are still 1.7 million people in need of assistance, with nearly 5 million needing regular assistance. Many are rural households who already have coops and knowledge to care for small livestock like hens and meat rabbits. Supply lines in the East are challenging to navigate as the war evolves, making it difficult for these households to not only replenish their stock but gain access to processed meats.
The Solution
We provide households with 30-50 hens to ensure replicating protein sources and are building hubs to lower the cost.

First, we provide enough broilers and egg-layers per FSL guidelines to support a household’s protein needs. But that’s not all.

We are establishing two hubs to support displaced peoples’ needs and provide excess stock that they can sell locally or back to us for a discounted cost to send to others in need. Our hubs are strategically placed – one in the west, the other in central Ukraine for wider reach and easier logistics.
