The Spanish Hawaiian Heritage Association (SHHA) honors the history of our families
by promoting Spanish culture, researching ancestral lineage and fostering partnerships
with aligned organizations. The background of our diaspora is unique, as we descend
from the original 8,000 families who emigrated from Spain to Hawaii at the turn of the
20th century. These immigrants worked in sugar cane plantations. Most then settled in
California in search of better living and working conditions.
