Healing Reins is a Premier Accredited PATH (Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship) International Center and the only one of its kind serving Central Oregon. Programs include Therapeutic Riding, Physical Therapy utilizing equine movement (Hippotherapy), Equine Assisted Learning, Equine Assisted Mental Health and Heroes Horsemanship. Healing Reins is proud to support our community's needs by providing access to therapies that change outcomes. Conditions served include but are not limited to: Autism, Amputation, Anxiety, ADD/ADHD, Behavioral Disorders, Cerebral Palsy, Depression, Developmental Delay, Down Syndrome, Genetic Disorders, Multiple Sclerosis, PTSD, Sensory Integration Disorder, Speech and Communication disorders, Stroke, Traumatic Brain Injury, etc.
Healing Reins opened its barn doors in 1999 in response to community demand for collaborative care services that embrace the whole individual. Using state-of-the-art equipment, specialized curriculum, and specially trained professional staff, we provide treatment strategies designed to help people meet their challenges head on and to thrive through learned skills. Healing Reins is not a typical treatment setting, which is exactly why it works! We partner with clients, caregivers, medical professionals, mental health providers and local agencies to offer a unique team approach to healing and recovery. 75% of our clients are low-income; most have multiple diagnoses. 100% receive scholarship support. Our Therapeutic Riding, Physical Therapy, Equine Assisted Mental Health and Heroes Horsemanship programs provide a truly integrated therapeutic experience that is proven nationwide to be effective and efficient for addressing a wide variety of conditions. We serve individuals and groups from Deschutes, Crook and Jefferson counties six days/week throughout the year and touch the lives of more than 170 participants each week. Healing Reins employs professionally trained and certified staff and specially selected equines to help people overcome severe physical, cognitive, emotional and behavioral disabilities that impact their ability to thrive. Our clients have excellent outcomes, which is why so many community agencies regularly refer their clients to us for collaborative care. We train hundreds of community volunteers that assist us in our work and who record 11,000+ volunteer hours each and every year. Equine assisted therapy is full-immersion therapy, engaging all aspects of mind and body simultaneously, which is why it works. The need for our services is HUGE. Twelve percent (59,823) of those living in Central and Eastern Oregon suffer from severe physical, cognitive, emotional and/or behavioral disabilities, preventing them from being actively contributing community members. Most of these individuals, 44,300, live in Deschutes County. Fifteen local community agencies refer their clients to us for rehabilitative care services, but the majority of those referrals do not come with funding. Approximately 50% of our clients are low income, and 100% have extraordinary health care bills. Healing Reins works hard to fundraise throughout the year to keep our scholarship pool full for those who need us most.
