A Resting Place

, SHUNPIKE

A Resting Place is a grief and loss cultural resource center located in Seattle’s Chinatown International District. A Resting Place provides a peaceful no-cost refuge for navigating separation and loss through letter writing, art, music, and bereavement resources. A Resting Place believes grief has the power to transform our communities towards a more just, loving, and accountable world.

A Resting Place is critically important as grief resources in King County are not only limited but lacking, particularly those relevant for Black, indigenous, and people of color communities. As we continue to grieve deaths due to interpersonal and systemic violence and global crises such as the COVID 19 pandemic, spaces where grief can be processed in a healthy way is an ever present need. In A Resting Place's art and healing practice, grief is defined as a natural response to any type of death or separation which include (but are not limited to) death of a significant person, cultural losses such as language or displacement from homeland, or interpersonal losses (loss of relationship). All of these aforementioned experiences of grief can lead to mental, physical, and spiritual distress.
