Habitat for Humanity of Kitsap County is a nonprofit housing organization dedicated to ending poverty housing in Kitsap County through affordable home ownership. We bring the community together to volunteer alongside Habitat families in the home building process as we build strength, stability, and self-reliance. We believe everyone deserves a decent place to call home.
We accomplish our mission by building homes, in partnership with low and very low-income people (people who earn between 30 – 80% of the median income), that are simple, decent, and affordable. Homes are sold to very low-income families at no profit and no interest or extremely low interest. Homeowners are required to perform sweat equity hours to help build their home as well as the homes of others. Community donations and earned income from our STORE support the operating and building materials costs of our mission.
There are very few, if any, opportunities for affordable homeownership in our region. Too many families are forced to live in substandard conditions such as overcrowding, ignored maintenance, and myriad health and safety issues. Children end up sleeping in the living room with their siblings because their parents can’t afford a larger space. Drafty mobile homes are very expensive to keep warm. Children are often forced to switch schools several times a year because their rent increases beyond their parents’ paychecks, and they must move. When a home becomes unlivable due to severe disrepair, families face homelessness. Without stable housing, families are in a constant state of crisis.
We have many opportunities to volunteer and donate. Also, check out our Habitat Store off of Wheaton Way in Bremerton for some great bargains on building materials, furniture, appliances, lawn tools and more!
