United Indians Labateyah Youth Home (for youth emerging from homelessness)

, UNITED INDIANS OF ALL TRIBES FOUNDATION

United Indians/Labateyah Youth Home assists homeless youth in the transition
from homelessness to independence and permanent housing. This is
accomplished via the development of living skills, healthy relationships,
community building and effective planning and decision making within an
effectively structured program.Program components include, assistance with
education and employment goals, computer access and a rent savings
program. The youth home's target population is homeless male and female
youth, ages 18-24. The youth are often considered difficult to serve by social
service professionals due to multiple barriers to stability. These include a lack of
education, training, work experience, as well as a lack of life and coping skills.
The program has a particular focus on Native American youth, who are
disproportionately represented among those in poverty, homeless and
educationally at-risk. No other Seattle metro area program offers a transitional
residential program based upon Native American values, such as community
responsibility, and integrating cultural traditions as a component of life skill
building.
