HISTORIC WENDOVER AIRFIELD INC

Historic Wendover Airfield is dedicated to preserving the efforts of ordinary soldiers and citizens during the extraordinary events of World War II. By maintaining the originality and authenticity of the facility, a unique historical experience will be recreated on this, the largest, most original remaining airfield that played a critical role in the development of the Army Air Force and the birth of the atomic age.

Ongoing operations will seek to educate all people of all ages, through outreach programs, documentary films, events and by developing creative, fun and stimulating interactive exhibits and displays.

Wendover Airfield is the most original remaining WW II Army Air Force base in the U.S. It has national significance due to the Manhattan Project work here. Both the 509th Composite Group was trained here and Project Alberta and Project W-47 work here perfected the assembly and delivery of the atomic bombs that ended WW II. We don't seek to condone nuclear weapons but there are significant misunderstandings about the development, testing, decision and use of the weapons during WW II. A perspective from both sides of that decision are necessary for an informed public.
