Joy Thru Tears Foundation (JTTF) was founded in 2022 by Louise Braun Frank to honor the legacy of her children, Joshua and Leah Chalcraft, and to recognize the caregivers who gave so much to her family in their time of need. These caregivers are the “Silent Angels” who provide in-home support to clients and their family members requiring physical, emotional, and social assistance which ultimately helps maintain their dignity and as much independence as possible.
According to the Washington State Dept. of Health, there are over 800,000 caregivers in the State, most being either unpaid or in the low-income bracket, making under $35,000 per year. Studies show that, because of the work they perform, 65% of caregivers experience two or more chronic illnesses, including burn out, depression and physical ailments. The vision of JTTF is to honor the love and dedication of these caregivers through our Silent Angels Program implemented in 2023.
The primary goal of the Silent Angels Program is to grant in-home caregivers a “Wish” of a nurturing experience to refresh and rejuvenate the mind, body, and spirit of those selected. We seek nominations of in-home caregivers in the Pierce and South King County areas in Washington State. Selected caregivers are those who provide in-home assistance to individuals with disabilities, the elderly, and others who are medically fragile and require physical, emotional, and social care. Providing recognition and respite benefits not only the caregiver but also affects the quality of care they provide to the individuals they selflessly serve.
To promote our mission and serve our communities, JTTF is partnering/collaborating with Tacoma’s Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital, Complex Critical Care Unit, the Red Cross, Military and Veterans Caregivers Network (MVCN), as well as other community organizations.
The JTTF is committed to working towards diversity, inclusion, cohesion, and equity (DICE). We believe that everyone of any background can support and honor the love, dedication, and tireless commitment caregivers provide to those they serve. We believe that this is an individual and collective journey of continual and committed improvement in the service to caregivers.
