Pantry to Porch was founded by Brigham Young University students during the COVID-19 pandemic as a volunteer initiative to deliver groceries to individuals experiencing food insecurity. What began as an emergency response effort quickly revealed an ongoing critical need within the community. Since then, Pantry to Porch has continued to address the transportation barrier faced by many food-insecure residents, maintaining one simple yet powerful directive: to deliver food and necessities from food pantries directly to the individuals and families experiencing barriers to accessing food.
Operating in Salt Lake and Utah Counties, Pantry to Porch ensures that vulnerable populations have reliable access to food and necessities. The organization partners with local food pantries and volunteer networks to provide free home-delivery services to individuals and families facing barriers to accessing food. Compassion and care are the core values that drive Pantry to Porch. We believe that when basic needs are met, individuals and families are better equipped to thrive. At its heart, Pantry to Porch strives to ensure that everyone within its reach has access to the food they need.
Together with its partners and volunteers, Pantry to Porch is building a seamless system that transforms community generosity into meals on the table for those who need them most. Pantry to Porch partners include the Utah Food Bank, Murray Children’s Pantry, Crossroads Urban Center, Jesus Feeds, Community Action Services, and Tabitha’s Way. These partnerships enable Pantry to Porch to efficiently source, coordinate, and deliver food directly to individuals and families facing food insecurity.
Pantry to Porch supports low-income and unhoused individuals and families, people with disabilities, children, and the elderly. For many in Utah and Salt Lake Counties, making the distance to a food pantry is impossible. These populations often go without the groceries they need simply because they cannot get there. Pantry to Porch clients fall into the same marginalized groups as those of food banks, including low-income families, children, seniors, people with disabilities, people experiencing homelessness, veterans, the unemployed, and students (Utah Food Bank). Approximately 95% of our clients live in low-income households, 51% have a disability, 52% are minorities, and approximately 1 in 3 of Pantry to Porch’s clients are children.
In 2025, Pantry to Porch made over 4,800 deliveries in Utah County and Salt Lake County, totaling over 217,000 meals delivered directly from local food pantries to community members’ homes at no charge. Of the over 12,000 clients that were served by our program in 2025, 34% were children and 95% lived in low-income households. This 30% increase in deliveries from 2024 demonstrates the growing need for food pantry delivery services in our community as well as the development of our organization’s operations.
