Our story goes back to Aug 6th, 2014, when our Founder (Joe Forlines) met the father of a fallen Navy SEAL in a bar in Northern Michigan who was honoring his son that died in a helicopter crash on that day 3 years prior (Extortion-17). Months later, the father was looking for a challenge to help relive his depression and was encouraged to join his Joe at an annual bike ride he attends (Zoo-De-Mack). The activity far exceeded expectations, and they agreed to come back the following year with a Team which has continued to expand annually.
Team Honor’s name originated from a planning session at another Founding Member’s cabin, which happened to be in Honor, Michigan.
Our logo is a Star that once flew proudly on an American Flag, somewhere in the US. Before the flag was properly retired, the stars were harvested by Vietnam Veteran Carlyle Brown (USMC) for the Michigan Heroes Museum in Frankenmuth, MI. The Michigan Heroes Museum shares a portion of the stars annually with Team Honor, who in turn places them on their Team Hats.
While Zoo-De-Mack is Team Honor’s founding activity, our membership now expands past 15 states, and we look to participate in any state our members live or travel to! This has also allowed us to extend our reach to help more families, and veterans.
