We propose to construct the Halvorsen Heritage Center at the Spanish Fork Airport to serve as a community gathering place that will have a museum area that displays artifacts relating to humanitarian service in the context of Colonel Halvorsen's life of service. There will be educational areas for school visits, STEM presentations, and a hands-on MakerSpace. We will provide continuing education programs for teachers for continued certification in STEM Education. The education area will be designed for multi-use to allow for community events. We will provide space for a hangar area to house Civil Air Patrol aircraft to provide increased community capacity for resilience during disasters; the CAP area will also be a living display as part of the museum area. We will host STEM Summer Day Camps and other school activities such as history art/composition activities focusing on history, humanitarian service, and international relations/understanding. The surrounding grounds will use low-impact xeriscaping and will have a Veterans Memorial Display to honor local veterans.
This will be a 25,000 square foot two-story facility having an Art Deco theme that honors Gail S. Halvorsen- the Berlin Candy Bomber. The facility will promote the values of Colonel Halvorsen, provide STEM activities for school children, and provide an esthetically pleasing community gathering location for the south Utah County communities.
