Tangi Animal Friends (TAF) has partnered with another nonprofit (SOAR) to create a spay neuter clinic on the SOAR campus in Ponchatoula, Louisiana. To help address the overpopulation problem in our community, we have been partnering with local veterinary clinics to reduce the cost of spay neuter surgeries. Individuals with demonstrated financial need are assessed a $35 copay which gets their cat the surgery, vaccines, a microchip, and take home pain medications. (For people who are doing Trap-Neuter-Release activities, we do not charge them any fees for these feral cats!). TAF's share of these expenses far exceed the client's copayment and has been increasing as veterinary clinics raise their prices. We have averaged about 1,000 spay neuter surgeries a year since 2023 but to continue this rate, we need additional funding. We hold two major fundraising events each year and several smaller ones throughout the year. We continually seek out grants and donations to help fund our critical spay neuter mission. In our new clinic, The Purr-fix, we pay a veterinarian and a vet tech for a day's work during which 15-25 cats receive spay and neuter surgeries. This is costing us 50% less per cat than it does when we use a full service veterinary clinic! With more funds, we can add more spay neuter clinic days at our new clinic. $10,000 would fund about 75% for 10 spay neuter days during which approximately 200 cats would be sterilized. Efforts like these are making an impact in our community.
