Amonyi, a 38-year-old single mom of three, has transformed her life with Convoy of Hope’s Women’s Empowerment program in South Sudan.
“Starting in the program was a great challenge for me,” Amonyi said. “I had to learn a lot of things. But I was struggling in my life. It was challenging to provide food, pay school fees, and medical bills.”
With three kids to feed and take care of on her own, Amonyi needed support.
That’s when she joined her local Women’s Empowerment group. The group in her community contributes to a fund that can help other women start their own businesses. Initially, Amonyi borrowed from this fund to start her produce stand.
“I prayed that God would help me. I was determined to be successful.”
Amonyi worked hard, and now has the tools and confidence she needs to thrive. After just a short time with her business, she paid back what she borrowed from her group in full.
“The training taught me I could do it,” she said. Convoy’s Women’s Empowerment program provided Amonyi with training on business skills, budgeting techniques, and strategies to set and achieve short- and long-term goals. More than that, Amonyi’s Women’s Empowerment group stood with her and encouraged her along the way.
Now Amonyi runs a successful business selling tomatoes, onions, green peppers, fish, soap, and sugar at her community’s market.
“Everything has changed and I am happy,” she said.
Looking to the future, Amonyi has big dreams for her family. “I want to see my children highly educated and holding big titles like doctors, teachers, nurses, agriculture specialists, and engineers to save the nation,” she said. “I would like a bigger store, a good house for my family, and no poverty in my home. I want to be the happiest mother.”
Amonyi is proof that with the right support and determination, women can overcome challenges and build a better future for themselves and their families.
