Rispa used to work in the mines.
The labor was strenuous, and it was time spent away from her children. But even worse for Rispa and her family, working in the mines was an irregular source of income.
Without a stable livelihood, Rispa watched her children grow up lacking many necessities. “I sometimes had no access to basic home needs and materials for school for my children,” she said.
But those struggles, frustration with her job, and sadness for her children no longer define Rispa’s story.
When Convoy of Hope brought agriculture training to her community in Tanzania, Rispa participated wholeheartedly. “I received training on poultry keeping, including feeding, vaccination, and disease control,” she said. Now, she has a new career — one that she is confident in maintaining and successfully growing.
“I sell chickens and eggs to purchase food and school materials for my children,” she said. “The support I received helped me a lot to feed my family.”
Being a poultry farmer lets Rispa thrive in an enjoyable working environment. She can spend time with her children, earn a consistent income, and provide for her family’s needs. In just four months, Rispa’s poultry business expanded from supporting five chickens to 30. “I felt so happy, as now I have a task to do and I’m feeling focused,” Rispa said.
Rispa takes pride in her work; she has renewed enthusiasm to pursue her career goals.
But it doesn’t stop there.
Rispa’s community also benefits from her new, practical skills.
“I’m doing the best practices in poultry keeping, while helping others through my experience,” she said. Rispa doesn’t keep her expertise to herself. “I’m thankful for Convoy of Hope’s support, and I’m transferring to others the knowledge I gained as a way to share love.”
