HORSEPOWER, incorporated in 1995, was established in response to the community’s dire need for a therapeutic equestrian program. We are a premier Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship (PATH) center, and we are located just south of the Piedmont Triad International Airport. From the Piedmont Triad, we have an average of 1450 individuals with special needs participating in our program weekly, from ages three and up.

We are a premier Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship (PATH) center, and we are located just south of the Piedmont Triad International Airport. From the Piedmont Triad, we have an average of 1450 individuals with special needs participating in our program weekly, from ages three and up.
The educational and physical benefits derived from equestrian activities are numerous. Participants not only learn new skills and build self-confidence; they are able to take advantage of opportunities to interact with animals and other individuals. In addition, they are able to reap the benefits of physical exercise. Particularly beneficial for individuals with impaired mobility, horseback riding gently and rhythmically moves the body in a similar manner to the human walking gait, thereby increasing balance, muscle control and strength in riders. Individuals with learning, emotional or mental disabilities are able to hone their concentration skills, patience and self-discipline. Moreover, the unique relationship developed between horse and rider helps to promote better interpersonal communication and coping skills, as well as self-esteem.
