CHICAGO LIGHTHOUSE INDUSTRIES

CHICAGO, Illinois

Since its beginning, The Chicago Lighthouse has helped members from some of Chicago’s most underserved communities live more independent, fulfilling lives. Our agency began in 1906 when a group of citizens came together to help people who were blind or visually impaired, initially by providing food and clothing, but soon expanding to create employment opportunities. Over the years, we opened the first Low Vision Clinic in the Midwest, an Early Intervention Program, and a social enterprise of Customer Call Centers that create jobs for our clients while providing revenue to support our other programs and services. In 2014, responding to a growing need in our community, we broadened our mission to include Veterans and people with other disabilities.

Our broad array of programs and services touch every life stage, from a Birth-to-Three Early Intervention Program designed to help infants and toddlers with vision loss, to a Seniors Program that helps foster connection among older clients with vision loss. We offer expert low vision care, education and employment, adaptive technology, and many other services that comprise a broad spectrum of wraparound support. Our programs provide the tools, resources, and social support our clients need to improve their health, build their resiliency, overcome isolation, and lead meaningful lives.
