Founded on the belief that everyone deserves access to the tools they need to live safely, independently, and with dignity, REquipment fills a critical gap in the state’s healthcare and human services landscape.
Every year, thousands of Massachusetts residents face barriers to mobility, communication, and everyday functioning due to disability, illness, or aging. For many, insurance limitations, long wait times, or financial hardship prevent timely access to the essential equipment they need—such as wheelchairs, walkers, hospital beds, and speech-generating devices. REquipment steps in where the system falls short.
As the only statewide medical equipment reuse program in Massachusetts, REquipment offers a simple but powerful solution: collect, refurbish, and redistribute quality equipment that might otherwise be discarded. The result is a sustainable, community-driven model that improves lives while reducing healthcare costs and environmental waste.
All equipment donations go through a meticulous sanitizing and repair process in partnership with certified technicians and a network of reuse partners. Items are then listed on our online inventory, making them easily searchable for individuals, caregivers, and professionals. Requests are free, and items are delivered to the recipient’s home or made available for pickup, ensuring accessibility and convenience.
What sets REquipment apart is our commitment to dignity, inclusion, and user-centered service. Our CEO and several members of our Board of Directors are individuals with disabilities themselves, bringing lived experience and insight into the real-world challenges our program addresses. This informs every aspect of our mission and strengthens our connection with the community we serve.
In 2023 alone, REquipment fulfilled over 1,800 equipment requests across all 14 counties in Massachusetts. That’s thousands of individuals who were able to return home from the hospital, remain safely in their communities, or regain independence—thanks to a walker, a wheelchair, a shower chair, or a communication device.
Beyond the impact on individuals, REquipment also benefits the healthcare system and the environment. By refurbishing and reusing equipment, we reduce landfill waste and lessen the demand for costly new medical devices. We partner with hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and long-term care facilities to capture equipment no longer needed and redirect it to those who need it most.
REquipment operates with a lean staff, a strong volunteer network, and a shared commitment to health equity. We rely heavily on grants, donations, and partnerships to sustain operations. As government funding becomes increasingly uncertain, community support and private philanthropy are more important than ever to ensure this vital program continues
