HORSEPOWER EQUINE ASSISTED LEARNING FOUNDATION INC

HEAL is a 501c3 Designated Public Charity. We provide sliding scale equine assisted learning (EAL) and equine assisted psychotherapy (EAP) services to active duty Military, Veterans, First Responders and their families. All of our staff are certified in the EAGALA Model of equine therapy; our mental health professionals are licensed with the Commonwealth of Virginia DBHDS and our equine specialists all have over 20,000 hours of horsemanship experience.

Our model of therapy is unmounted and incorporate up to three horses as members of the treatment team working with the mental health professional and equine specialist. We provide this type of therapy and learning experiences to individuals, groups, families, couples and children as young as 8. For therapy clients, we conduct a full assessment and develop a treatment plan before initiating services.

The Eagala model uses observation about the horses behavior in order for the client to create metaphors about their own experiences and to develop insight into their own mood, behaviors and life challenges. All sessions are 100% confidential. For those experiencing financial hardship we are able to offer low-fee or no-fee sessions on a case by case basis. For those who are insured or employed copayment is $60/session and can be submitted to insurance for reimbursement.
