LSO presents a season of ten concerts which are attended by nearly 10,000 audience members annually. These include six classical concerts, conducted by Music Director Edward Polochick, which feature standard orchestral repertoire, including a commitment to new music and living composers; two affordable one-hour family concerts, typically including actors or puppets to create a fun, educational way for children to learn about and enjoy the orchestra; one pops concert, typically movie music, popular music, or orchestral classics with an additional element such as Cirque performers; and an annual holiday pops concert, featuring traditional holiday favorites and Lincoln Suzuki students, choirs and singers, several dance companies (including an adaptive dance company), and a visit from Santa.
LSO also provides education and community engagement activities that reach more than 13,500 students in more than 90 schools throughout Nebraska annually. This includes our Young People’s Concerts, Lincoln City Library partnerships, school residencies, artist visits, pre-concert activities, and an annual Young Artist Competition. In addition, Harmony in Healing, a music and wellness program, presents a series of small chamber ensemble performances in various healthcare facilities and settings throughout Lincoln.
Partnering with LPS’s Family Literacy program and other human service organizations through our Social Impact Program, LSO provides free concert opportunities for underserved populations, including the immigrant and refugee community, at-risk youth, military veterans, and adults in various rehabilitation programs.
