Honor Flight of Southern Colorado is a 501(c)3 non profit all volunteer organization. Honor Flight provides our cherished veterans an opportunity to see the memorials in Washington DC with others who have shared similar experiences. They take time to remember and honor those who did not make it home and for some, finally feel appreciated for their service to our country. Most importantly, many of the veterans open up for the FIRST time about their experiences while serving. We provide psychotherapists and medical staff to support them as they begin to come to grips with their experiences and start a process of healing.
We complete the trip by having a Welcome Home event with bands, honor guards, speakers ,American flags, signs, and family & community members cheering the veterans as they step off the bus from the airport. The cost to take a veteran on this trip is $1200. We take terminally ill veterans and have psychotherapists and medical staff travel with us to support the veterans. We provide wheelchairs for those that are not ambulatory and provide each veteran with clothing that distinguishes as Honor Flight veterans. We have volunteers that pay their way to act as guardians for those veterans that need assistance in traveling. All travel, hotel, and meals are paid on behalf of the veteran. A professional photographer records the trip in photographs that we comply and provide to the veteran for a remembrance of the Honor Flight. We hear over and over from the veterans that this is a trip of a lifetime.
